This is a comprehensive course that explores how yoga, neuroscience and behavioral science merge into a holistic healing modality for those whose lives are affected by trauma. Suitable for anyone working with trauma impacted individuals: teachers, therapists, life coaches, and yoga teachers, our faculty brings decades of diverse experience and focused teaching to the topic.

In this training, you will understand the complex topic of trauma that is so prevalent in our culture, and how you can help as a yoga teacher or care provider. We believe that authentic Yoga is, by definition and intention, inherently trauma sensitive. This day long training will give you the tools you need to become more adept at addressing trauma through your teaching.

IN THIS COURSE YOU WILL:

  • Understand trauma, its sources, pathways and triggers from a neurological and developmental perspective.

  • Nikki’s focus will be on Connecting the Dots: Addiction, Trauma, Race & Yoga. Using wisdom from the ancient yogic texts, western psychology, and trauma healing methodologies as a basis, this session explores the connection between addiction and trauma and how yoga philosophy and practices offer insight into healing. With trauma as a through-line, we will also explore the back-breaking cost - for all of us - of living in a racialized society and the liberation that is possible in transforming it.

  • Uncover how sensory processing and neural development influence adaptive or maladaptive responses to stress and trauma

  • Recognize trauma responses in a yoga class and be able to respond appropriately

  • Learn specific trauma sensitive teaching protocols and techniques

  • Apply a model of the subtle (yogic) body in addressing and helping to heal trauma

  • If you would like the Full Certification, you will be required to complete an optional comprehension quiz. ($25 additional fee)

CERTIFICATION

Upon completion of all course requisites, Full Certification participants will receive a certificate from the Yoga Vidya School, which can be used to satisfy continuing ed requirements for Yoga Alliance and/or the International Association of Yoga Therapists.
